Help on Science Test?

July 26th, 2010

This is urgent. First person to answer gets best answer.

The following steps describe the process of generating electricity by burning coal in a power plant.

1. The coal fire converts to liquid water to steam.

2. The steam rotates fan like blades of a mechanical turbine.

3. The shaft of the turbine spins an electric generator.

4. The electric power is delivered to the consumer over long-distance power lines.

Which energy transformation occurs during this process?

A. Nuclear energy of the steam is converted to thermal energy of the turbine.
B. Mechanical energy from the turbine is converted to electric energy in the energy in the generator.

C. Electric energy from the generator is converted to chemical energy in the power lines.

D. Chemical energy from the generator is converted to electric energy in the power lines.

I am not cheating but I think my teacher accidentally marked this question wrong when it was right.
Explanation please!

Modern science teaches a heliocentric solar system. Should we teach an alternative, the geocentric model?

July 10th, 2010

After all, kids are smart enough aren’t they? We should teach them alternatives to be fair,

just as Creationsits want Intelligent Design as an altnerative to the Theory of Evolution,

do they also wish that astronomy class include the geocentric model of the solar system, with the Earth in the center, and the sun in Earth orbit?

In the interest of fairness?

Students get jolt out of testing solar power at Hope science camp
The summer sun provides plenty of power a group of girls learned Thursday afternoon.   The middle-school girls, in a new science camp activity on the Hope College campus, wired solar panels to engines and lights, to measure how much energy the panels were collecting. They also built solar ovens — with tin foil reflectors, a saran wrap cover and dark construction-paper insides — to collect the …
