So we will be moving to a home out in CA, the desert part where its usually 100* Degrees. So we definitly want to get solar panels to reduce energy costs considering we will have AC all day and heating in winter. But we only to plan to live there about 2- 3years. I have two solar panels that were going to be trashed at work. I want to use them to charge batteries on my RV but i noticed they put out around 20 volts in direct sunlight. So i am wondering:
-isn’t this way too much voltage for a 12 volt system?
-do a need some sort of a regulator connected to keep them from overcharging?

I’ve installed some solar panels near the ground, but even though they’re protected from the wind, snow is building up on them. I’d like to install some deflectors to channel the wind up and over the back end of the panels so that less snow builds up on the surface. The strip of panels is about 70′ long.

I just found out that my homeowners insurance company wants to charge me $300 more per year because I have some old solar panels on my roof. They were put on by the previous owners a long time ago I think. They are for a solar water heater but they aren’t connected to anything because I just have a regular water heater in my garage. They are ugly as hell and I would just as soon take them down as I’d rather have a tankless system eventually anyways. My insurance is already $3150 per year for a 140K house (Florida) so its high enough as it is. It seems stupid to pay $300 a year for something I’m not even using. Who can I call to take them down or can I do it myself or are solar water heaters cheap enough now that I should consider one?

The solar panel wouldn’t need to be very large, and for the most part could be on the back or top of the street light. At night, they could be powered the same way they are now or by batteries that the solar panels could be charging throughout the day. Please explain to me if you think this is good or bad.
